**The Role**
Working in the Taskforce is a unique opportunity to contribute to the most transformative industrial project in Australia’s history and ensure our national security and regional stability. Working in the Taskforce, and supporting the responsible Assistant Secretary as Taskforce Lead, you will have responsibility for developing a comprehensive understanding of where the current skills and training system has the potential to support the nuclear submarine program, identifying potential gaps and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to design solutions to meet workforce and skills and training needs. The work of the Taskforce will be varied and will require strong collaboration with other Commonwealth agencies, states and territories and industry stakeholders.
The Taskforce is to be established for an initial period of 2 years.
**Skills and Capabilities**
The initial focus of the Taskforce will be on the following priorities, (officers would be expected to lead and contribute commensurate with their level):
- Managing the department’s engagement in inter-agency forums on the whole of government response to implementation of the AUKUS submarine program and establishment of governance arrangements.
- Drafting of and tracking against an initial workplan.
- Working collaboratively with other Commonwealth departments, and in particular the Department of Defence, to identify opportunities for the skills and training system to deliver civilian workforce requirements.
- Review of existing data, programs and policies and linkages with other agency agendas. Commissioning additional data, research and analysis to address any gaps to develop a complete picture of the workforce requirements and training pathways.
- Supporting the Commonwealth Government to engage with key stakeholders, including relevant state and territory governments, unions and industry peaks and Jobs and Skills Councils.
- Providing high quality, strategic policy and program advice to the Minister for Skills and Training on policy responses.
Taskforce Director
Under the leadership and direction of the First Assistant Secretary and Assistant Secretary, the Director will lead Taskforce activities.
The Director will work on the development of strategic plans, workplans, business cases and project/program activities for the Taskforce initiatives. This role provides expertise across a broad range of activities including corporate services and administration, project/program management, stakeholder and partner engagement and culture.
Assistant Director Taskforce Managers
The Assistant Director is a key leadership position within the Taskforce, managing project, program and stakeholder management responsibilities. The role nurtures and manages a range of key internal and external stakeholder relationships and networks and responsibility to manage issues and risks with the Taskforce activities.
The Assistant Director works with a considerable degree of independence, under broad direction from the Director. They undertake management or oversight of certain activities for the Taskforce.
APS6/APS5 Taskforce Support Officers
The Taskforce Support Officers will support the Assistant Director and Director in project, program and stakeholder management responsibilities. The role collaborates with a range of key internal and external stakeholders and networks on a range of matters related to the taskforce.
The APS5 and APS6 will work with a broad degree of self-direction, managing and completing the day-to-day activities of the taskforce to deliver high quality professional program/project and corporate services administration.
**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations or APS employees as a temporary transfer at level or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 24 months.
