**The Role**
The WHS (Work Health and Safety) Assurance Officer in WHS Branch is an integral part of a dynamic team that helps to support and influence positive safety outcomes across Defence. Working under broad direction, your responsibilities will include:
- Scoping, planning and executing the annual assurance plan across a mix of assurance activities such as audits, desktop reviews and post implementation reviews
- Development and active engagement with key internal and external stakeholder relationships - including identification of stakeholder expectations and resolution of concerns where they exist - to develop and communicate assurance methodologies and practices that help deliver Defence safety outcomes
- Leading preparation and support for key WHS committees and boards, including preparing briefs, talking points, presentations, committee papers and other materials.
**About our Team**
The Strategy Risk and Assurance team supports the effective implementation of the Defence WHS Management System by providing the senior leadership in Defence with high quality, timely and accurate advice on enterprise work health and safety matters. Our functions include the development and implementation of the Defence WHS Strategy, providing support and advice on enterprise WHS risks and the development and management of the annual Defence WHS Assurance Program.
The team also provides project management across a range of WHS activities and initiatives such as the Defence Workforce Fatigue Management Review and the Defence Safety Investigations Framework review.
- A sound working knowledge of WHS legislation and practices in a complex shared duty environment
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, organise, plan and monitor tasks taking into consideration interdependencies and opportunities and adapt to change and uncertainty;
- Under limited supervision, the capacity to use judgement and initiative to find solutions to issues;
- Drafting high-quality documents appropriate for a range of audiences, including briefings, minutes, correspondence, and reports of varying complexity;
- Drawing appropriate insights from data, reports and analysis.
- High-level communication skills, agility and flexibility, effective collaboration skills, and ability to effectively manage within a diverse team environment and across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
