**The Position**
The safety function within Rolling Stock supports a 24-hour, 7-day week business with responsibility for providing professional and strategic advice in the areas of Occupational Health & Safety, Rail Safety and Environment. The core function of the position is to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and go beyond this by leading specific improvement initiatives and providing coaching and mentoring to employees in their obligations and responsibilities under applicable legislation and Metro policies.
The role will be responsible for managing a small and diverse team of professionals to lead a change in the way we do things. If successful, you will be tasked with providing ideas and solutions to change an established industry's safety culture.
**Responsibilities**
Reporting to the Head of Fleet Safety, Environment and Quality, this position will
- Lead the Rolling Stock safety team, providing mentoring and coaching
- Develop and implement OHS procedures and strategies for Rolling Stock based on approved MTM policies and procedures
- Oversee the audit inspection programme, undertake audits and identify improvement initiatives for business implementation
- Oversee the hazard identification and risk reduction programs within Rolling Stock
- Oversea and drive the incident management programme, undertake analysis and identify improvement initiatives for business implementation.
- Monitor occupational health and safety (OHS) issues with due regard to legislative requirements, to meet or exceed expectations, industry best practices and proposed actions by government bodies and regulators
- Responding to requests for information from ONRSR, WorkSafe, DOT and other internal and external stakeholders
**Requirements**:
- Proven knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements, with Rail industry experience, preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading change and implementing continual improvement
- Exceptional Stakeholder management
- Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety or related field
- Qualified Lead Investigator (ICAM Preferred)
- Qualified Lead Auditor (preferred)
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (preferred)
- Experience in a High-Risk Industry (preferred)
