**Position Description Public Art Maintenance Officer**
May 2025**

**Purpose**

The Public Art Maintenance Officer will be responsible for performing maintenance on public
artworks.

The primary objective of this position is to maintain Councils public art assets with the key
focus on delivering efficient and effective services to the community.

As an ongoing commitment to the organisation, you will be responsible for delivering the
best service to our community and to improve residents’ quality of life; continuously, smartly
and efficiently in the scope of your daily work.

**Key Deliverables**
- Maintain the artworks to Council’s standards, including cleaning (manual and water

pressure), oiling, graffiti removal, vegetation and weed control, site clean up
- Maintain, monitor and report on all public art assets, to Council’s standards, including

artwork repairs within maintenance instructions relevant for individual assets
- As required, undertake duties relevant to public art assets at Council and third party
- owned sites which may include minor reinstatement, repairs and inspections
- Report defects, repairs and maintenance issues to the Public Art and Place

Coordinator that requires further investigation
- Operate minor plant and equipment as required to maintain Council’s public art

assets and surrounding spaces
- Assist the Public Art and Place Coordinator to deliver key performance indicators

regarding maintenance
- Operate Graffiti Utility Truck

**Person Specification**

Essential criteria
- Commitment to preserving artistic integrity of public art assets
- Sound knowledge or willingness to learn and develop required programmed activities

and work practices relevant to the maintenance of public art assets
- Ability to undertake basic repairs of public art assets
- Initiative, positivity and self-motivation
- Knowledge of principles of customer service with clear and effective communication
- Sound organisational/time management skills
- Knowledge of WHS and environment principles
- Appropriate licences (including Construction White Card) to operate vehicle, plant and

equipment used in maintenance

Desirable criteria
- Experience with best practice in artwork maintenance or willingness to develop
- Work zone traffic management accreditation or willingness to undertake
- Elevated Work Platform Licence
- Knowledge of locating and working near underground and overhead services

**Standard conditions**
- Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of

Marion)
- Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the

City of Marion)
- Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,

with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
- Adhere to the City of Marion Values.
- Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
- Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud
