About the role

The OIC promotes and protects the right of Queenslanders to access government-held information and ensure their personal information is lawfully collected, held and used by Queensland government agencies.

A key focus of our work involves providing guidance and information to agencies and the public to raise awareness and understanding of information access and privacy rights and responsibilities under the RTI and IP Acts. This includes proactively engaging with Queensland government agencies and providing training and education to build capability within the public sector and promote best practice.

As the Principal Advisor, Governance, Risk and Compliance officer, you will be responsible to managing the OIC's risk, corporate governance, compliance and business continuity arrangements, which will play a critical role in our success.

Key responsibilities

Lead the design, implementation, and review of OIC's governance, compliance, risk management, and business continuity strategies, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, ISO standards and government expectations.
Oversee and manage the tracking of critical activities such as business continuity testing, audit recommendations, risk reviews, and compliance assessments.
Prepare and present comprehensive governance and risk reports to executives, offering strategic insights and identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
Provide operational and tactical guidance on governance and compliance issues, fostering a risk-aware culture across the OIC.
Drive continual improvement initiatives to integrate best practices in risk management, enhancing operational performance and accountability.
Build and maintain effective relationships withing OIC and with external agencies to represent and advance the interests of OIC.

About the OIC

The OIC plays an important role in Queensland's integrity framework and is an independent statutory body that reports to Parliament. Our vision is to build public trust in government through transparency.

We have a statutory functions and powers under the RTI and IP Acts to facilitate greater and easier access to information held by government agencies. We also assist agencies to understand their obligations under the IP Act and use our regulatory powers to safeguard the personal information they hold. We conduct reviews of agency decisions to refuse access to request for information, mediate privacy complaints, and monitor and review agencies' compliance with their obligations under the RTI and IP Acts. We are accountable and report to Parliament on our operational performance and regulatory activities.
