About us As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders. QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners. Purpose of role We are seeking a Principal Assurance and Risk Advisor to join our ICT Portfolio Management Branch. Our vision is to make IT simplified, smarter, connected and user friendly. We value your skills and recommendations that support the implementation of IT governance, risk and assurance frameworks and processes aligned to departmental frameworks, standards and objectives. You will contribute to the management of IT investment, governance, portfolio, projects, and assurance activities to deliver solutions that provide responsive fire and emergency services to the community. In addition to an attractive salary and superannuation package we offer: - Flexible work arrangements and flex time for a healthy work life balance - Training and development opportunities - An office location convenient to public transport in Albion - Access to a gym and pool facilities at our Kedron complex Key requirements Highly desirable requirements - Knowledge and understanding of project management and/or certification in MOP, MSP, PRINCE 2, Agile or P3M3 methodology. - Knowledge and understanding the Queensland Government program and project assurance framework and/or qualification as a Gateway Review Team Member or Team Leader in accordance with Queensland Treasury Gateway review process. Your key accountabilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: - Lead the end-to-end internal or external gated assurance process, including undertaking reviews and health checks, and ensuring action plans are in place and are being acted upon, monitored and tracked within agreed timeframes. - Provide strategic advice to key stakeholders relating to effective program and project gating and assurance, benefits, governance and risk management to ensure effective decision-making and project delivery. - Analyse program and project assurance, governance and risk data and identify key issues and mitigation strategies to be addressed at the portfolio level. - Monitor and review project assurance activities to develop practical and effective processes and recommendation for continuous improvement in accordance relevant policies, standards and frameworks. - Design, develop and implement governance dashboards across aspects of board effectiveness, risk and issue management and assurance for programs and projects to improve decision making. - Review critical project/program artefacts to identify, examine and analyse assurance actions, and provide solutions to ensure best practice compliance and alignment with the department's strategic objectives. - Build and maintain effective working relations with internal and external stakeholders, to negotiate and influence on sensitive and complex issues, and ensure awareness and adherence to standards, procedures and assurance issues and activities. - Undertake and support whole-of-government and internal reporting, and analyse the condition, status and overall delivery of programs and projects with respect to governance, risk and assurance.
