The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit several Information Security and ICT infrastructure Support Officers. These are permanent, full-time or part-time positions at the APS 5 and 6 classification levels.

The successful applicants can work out of our offices located in either Adelaide, Belconnen (Canberra) or Sydney, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

**About the business area and the roles**

The Cyber Operations Section provides services that facilitate the ongoing security and observability of the ICT environment which underpins ABS service delivery. The section delivers the following services: Security Operations, User Entity Behaviour Analytics, Vulnerability Management, Information Security, Business Insights, Service and Systems monitoring and Identity & Access Management. Cyber Operations also propose and deliver projects to mitigate risk and uplift the security and compliance of the ICT environment.

The section works in collaboration and partnership with the other teams of the Security & Infrastructure Branch which includes Cyber Security, Protective Security and the ICT infrastructure teams.

As an **Information Security Officer** your responsibilities may include:

- triage and investigation activities, which includes threat classification, incident response, alert tuning, as well as leading improvements in monitoring and alerting capabilities for timely incident detection and escalation
- design and develop security use cases, building and maintaining productive working relationships with key clients and other security and infrastructure groups to achieve business outcomes
- contribute to the creation and delivery of Cyber Security reports, undertake vulnerability scanning activities and prepare and schedule reports for audit and compliance.

As an **ICT Infrastructure Support Officer** your responsibilities may include:

- deploying, managing and scaling the infrastructure supporting cyber operations across a hybrid ICT footprint encompassing both on premise and cloud environments ensuring security best practice
- developing technical and support documentation, user education guides and self-help knowledge articles
- maintaining awareness of the external environment and recommending opportunities to enhance capabilities through the introduction of new products or features
- liaising with clients and vendors to troubleshoot issues, identify root cause, resolve and document problems and implement preventative measures.

**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**

To be suitable for an APS 5 or APS 6 role as an Information Security or ICT Infrastructure Support Officer, you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

- demonstrated experience in managing and maintaining infrastructure that incorporates process, technology and security elements, by working with commercial-off-the-shelf platforms and/or infrastructure as code deployments
- strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, including acting as a lead for providing analytical and/or technical advice and support relating to the delivery of Cyber Operations services and functions
- analytical and/or technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to establish, participate and maintain relationships with stakeholders and vendors, including escalating and managing resolution of issues
- staff management and/or coaching and mentoring skills (for the APS 6 classification level)
- demonstrated experience and proficiency in one or many of the following technologies including but not limited to: Splunk, Dtex, InsightVM, Dynatrace, Cribl or equivalent products
- broad understanding of, or the ability to undertake duties across both the Information Security and ICT Infrastructure Support Officer roles is desirable.
