The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Principal Assessor and Policy Officer to provide a critical role within Redress Design, Police and Community Safety.
**About the business unit**
Redress Design is responsible for developing and implementing redress schemes that acknowledge past harm, provide a range of support options for individuals who have experienced harm, and operate independently from the organisation responsible for causing the harm. It provides high-quality strategic policy advice, makes recommendations to government for new scheme design and operational models, and is responsible for administration and delivery of frontline services.
**About the role**
Some of your duties will include:
- Provide high level and authoritative policy advice to the Senior Manager Assessments and Director on complex issues to support delivery of assessment determinations.
- Produce high quality, clear, compelling and objective written materials to support the delivery of assessment determinations for the schemes.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong conceptual skills with the ability to analyse complex policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and provide accurate and strategic advice.
- Awareness of the issues involved in managing a team exposed to sensitive and/or confronting material, and working across teams and organisations to achieve outcomes.
**Qualifications**
- A qualification or relevant experience in one or more of the following areas is essential: law, social policy, occupational health and safety, health, environmental science, equal opportunity, criminal justice.
