- The Principal Policy Officer has a strong interest in information rights, including public access to information, information management, information sharing, privacy, technology, policy and law. This senior position requires a strong knowledge of the operation of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) (FOI Act) and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act); written and oral communication skills; research experience; and strong analytical, legal and policy analysis skills. A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in the workings of government, freedom of information, privacy, and information management are highly desirable.

The Principal Policy Officer works to shape the Victorian public sector's approach to public access to information under the FOI Act and promote an understanding of the Information Privacy Principles under the PDP Act. This includes conducting research and preparing guidance materials for the public and the Victorian public sector, providing advice on government initiatives, reviewing draft legislation and program proposals, preparing submissions to public consultations and parliamentary Inquiries, and assisting with the preparation and delivery of presentations.

- Due to the nature of OVIC's work, you must successfully obtain and maintain a **Negative Vetting Level 1** security clearance following your appointment and be an **Australian citizen**.
