**About the role**

Reporting to the Superintendent for Service Planning Intermodal, the Train Service Specialist is a key operational planning role that plans assets across the time horizon of 1 to 4 weeks. The role is to plan efficient, effective, and safe freight solutions for major commercial customers; creating solutions which result in improved business performance.

Based in our central planning team in North Sydney, the role requires shift coverage between the hours of 7am-3pm with the requirement to work 1 weekend every month with the following Mon to Tues off. You may be required to work on public holidays.

Key responsibilities include:

- Development of train service plans, scheduling of critical assets, including access confirmation, integrating maintenance activities, and improving plan viability
- Development of variation and changes required or solutions necessary to enable recovery to plan
- Responsible for service plan management which identifies conflicts, constraints, efficiency, and effective opportunities
- Contribution to the deployment of new and existing services with the operations group to improve both business and customer performance

**About you**

To be successful in this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate strong analytical ability and a commitment to problem-solving, coupled with an innovative and creative thinking style.

High-level communication ability is essential, with verbal, written and interpersonal skills integral to success in this role. There is a high volume of phone related tasks, so it is essential you have demonstrated relationship management strengths with the ability to develop rapport with stakeholders via the phone. You will need to be a team player with clear evidence of your ability to build successful stakeholder relationships.

In addition:

- Experience in rail, transport or heavy industry preferred
- Ability to triage a wide range of competing priorities to achieve an optimal outcome is essential
- Specialist or technical knowledge of transport, logistics planning and operations will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated ability to work within a dynamic and multi-faceted business operation would be advantageous
- Very strong attention to detail is essential
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or the work experience equivalent will be highly regarded
