The Shredder Operations Supervisor reports to the Shredder Operations Manager. The Shredder Supervisor is responsible for the efficient operation of the shredder at optimal productions rates with mínimal downtime. The Shredder Supervisors also communicates upward with the Shredder Operations Maintenance department regarding all repair and maintenance issues while ensuring that all his/her efforts are compliant with the company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. The Shredder Supervisors should possess knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, as well as knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and techniques for maximising operational efficiency.

This position Supervisor under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

- Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.

**Operational Performance & Best Business Practices**
- Ensure the shredder runs efficiently at optimal productions rates with mínimal downtime.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, while ensuring material is suitable for shredding and falls within size requirements.
- Maintain routine and consistent housekeeping in shredding area to ensure the safe operation of the equipment and affected employees.
- Perform mechanical maintenance functions as necessary.
- Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
- Maintains an extremely clean facility and makes sure shredder equipment and other heavy metal equipment is maintained and acceptable.
- Performs other miscellaneous job duties and related functions as needed.
- Familiar with downstream operations
- Must understand and know the shredder process, production, analytics and OSHA safety protocols.
- Shredder Production, including daily coordination of shredder operations
- Operate the Shredder during production shifts
- Perform and document pre-shift start up inspections
- Repairs of breakdowns during a production shift
- Documentation of production totals
- Development and training of employees
- Lead training of safety standards to union personnel
- Ensure all safety protocols are consistently followed
- Collaborate with other supervisors to prioritize the needs of the facility
- The employee may be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS**

**Experience**:
Up to 4 years’ experience supervising employees in the similar scrap handling work or manufacturing operations desired. Hands on experience with the operation and maintenance of shredders and material handling equipment (e.g., cranes, shears, bailers).

**Education**:
High school or technical school diploma required.

**Skills**:
Employee must demonstrate good people skills in supervising the work of union and non-union employees. Must be able to communicate with and motivate the work force to assure the completion of mechanical and maintenance repairs as expeditiously and cost effectively as possible, to avoid work stoppages while maintaining safety. Must be able to take over (on an emergency basis) responsibility of the plant manager, and the operation of equipment (e.g., pay loaders, cranes, and mill operator) due to the lack of union manpower. Should have good understanding of the operation of equipment and be able to determine problems and be able to make decisions to solve the problem. Must be computer literate to design and input various reports. Must have some knowledge of different types of scrap metal.

**Equipment & Maintenance**
- Install, align, and lock specified blades, hoses, belts, and other parts or fixtures and perform general clean up at the shredder.
- Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions for maintenance or repair to the proper supervisor.

**Internal Control Responsibilities**

Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business. Communicates upward problems in operations, non-compliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
