**The Opportunity**
We have an opportunity for a General Manager Legislative and Regulatory Reform to be part of our Fisheries and Aquaculture Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The General Manager provides leadership of the legislative, policy and regulatory activities across Fisheries and Aquaculture. The General Manager is part of the leadership team within the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division of PIRSA, has responsibility for key statutory policies that promote and achieve the objectives of PIRSA and in particular Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The General Manager is accountable for:
- Ensuring the Legislative and Regulatory Reform group meets its performance targets in terms of budget, compliance outcomes, and risk management.
- Ensuring the Legislative and Regulatory Reform group’s activities integrate with obligations of the PIRSA strategic and annual operating plans, enabling staff to effectively manage the Fisheries and Aquaculture risks and sustainability across the state.
- The provision of expert advice on legislative management and reform issues that enable meaningful and informative policy outcomes.
- Regularly reporting to the Executive Director, Fisheries and Aquaculture, matters of significance, progress of targets, and the progress towards the business unit performance outcomes.
The General Manager will also play a key role in leading, developing, and mentoring staff to improve overall performance and delivery of organisational outcomes in areas of responsibility.
The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities including development and delivery of strategic priorities that align with the State and PIRSA Strategic Plans, and are consistent with state and national legislation and, develops and fosters collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders at national, regional and local levels, including industry and other PIRSA divisions.
The General Manager provides expert advice and drives the development of contemporary legislation and policy and the implementation of strategies and services to support the legislative framework.
The position is responsible for providing high level advice and support to the Executive Director, Fisheries and Aquaculture, to address a range of challenges for the seafood industry, both nationally and in South Australia, including:
- Maintaining sustainable development of the fisheries and aquaculture industry; and
- The impacts legislation and regulations have on operations and market access pressures on, and within, the industry.

**Requirements**:
- Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required
- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations
- A relevant qualification at a tertiary level or a relevant qualification in Law, Business or a related discipline, would be highly desirable
- Desirable: experience in Fisheries and Aquaculture management.
