**About the Position**

The Attendance Directorate within the Support & Inclusion Division aims to improve participation, engagement and learning achievement for all children and students. Support and Inclusion priorities children and students with functional needs, Aboriginal students and children in care. This includes improving attendance, particularly for these priority cohorts.

The Attendance Directorate provides student-centred and evidence informed services and advice to support all students to access their right to an education. We foster responsibility for attendance across the system to ensure that schools are supported with universal, targeted and intensive supports to manage complex barriers to school attendance**.**

The Manager, Legislation and Strategy provides expert leadership, direction and advice to manage the regulatory framework surrounding school attendance and lead statutory responses statewide.

The role builds and maintains effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Department for Child Protection, Crown Solicitors Office, Attorney General’s Department and internally Student Support Services, Legal Services and site leaders, and leads and reviews processes to ensure relevant stakeholders are supported.

The Manager, Legislation and Strategy is responsible for leading, managing and overseeing a small team who implement legal advice and direction, aligned with the department’s strategy and delivered in compliance with legislation and department procedures and policy.

**Qualifications**

**Essential**: A relevant tertiary qualification.

**Desirable**: Legislation reform, legal experience / qualification and/or dispute resolution experience.

Experience within education sector or child protection highly regarded.

**Special Conditions**

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN -EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

ASO8: $121,107 - $125,679 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation plus leave loading.
