**ABOUT THE BRANCH AND SECTION**

The Data and Assurance Branch leads and supports whole-of-government data initiatives to inform policy and service delivery and optimise use of government resources. We provide policy advice to the Minister for Finance. We coordinate decisions and actions across Commonwealth agencies and with state and territory governments to use data and digital opportunities to greatest effect. The work of the Branch includes leading the implementation of initiatives under the Data Strategy.

The Government Business Analytical Unit (GBAU) delivers high value data projects in collaboration with Finance business areas. We deliver high value data projects in collaboration with Finance business areas. Our work program focuses on leveraging the data assets across the diverse functions of Finance to help business areas generate insights from their data and encourage improved data practices. We also lead the implementation of initiatives under Finance’s Data Strategy.

**ABOUT THE** OPPORTUNITIES**

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, respected and professional data analytics unit who is making an impact on how the Department of Finance (Finance) understands, talks about and uses data.

The Government Business Analytical Unit delivers high value data projects in collaboration with Finance business areas. Our work program focuses on leveraging the data assets across the diverse functions of Finance to help business areas generate insights from their data and encourage improved data practices. We also lead the implementation of initiatives under Finance’s Data Strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

- Undertaking analytical projects in collaboration with business areas across Finance. This will include working in a team to scope, plan, and undertake a range of project tasks against agreed timelines
- Developing different ways to visualise and report results of data analysis to internal clients and senior managers, and maintain regular reporting/visualisations
- Developing and maintaining data assets, including basic data modelling, development of business rules to support data quality and integrity, and integration with analysis and visualisation tools
- Engaging with internal stakeholders to scope the opportunities to leverage Finance data and lift data capability within the organisation.
