THE ROLE

An exceptional opportunity for an outstanding individual to lead the

Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC)

in the position of MUSEC School Principal. Reporting to the Dean of Macquarie School of Education, the MUSEC School Principal will lead a team of passionate professional educators, comprising of Master Special Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Classroom Assistants, a Speech Pathologist, and a Visual Arts Teacher.

With a comprehensive approach to the way we support students and their families, MUSEC delivers educational programs for students with a range of special learning needs in the years kindergarten to year 6. We are looking for a School Principal who places students at the centre of their educational experience, by cultivating and strengthening a positive teaching, learning and work environment for all staff, students and their families. In addition to leading the MUSEC team, the position will be responsible for the co-ordination and supervision of post-graduate students on placement in the school.

ABOUT YOU

Accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), you will have a recognised teaching qualification and a postgraduate qualification in Special Education. You will have a proven track record of successful educational leadership, including exceptional strategic and operational skills in an educational setting.

With extensive experience teaching in primary classroom environments, you are an innovative educator, able to cultivate and strengthen teaching and learning programs in a collaborative team environment.

Your background in developing and implementing evidence-based literacy and numeracy, teaching programs and resources, ensures that you possess high levels of ability and confidence in managing a school environment to meet the needs of primary aged students with a range of special learning needs. As an exemplifier of continuous improvement, you will have extensive and varied experience in education and strong knowledge of best practice and research in the special education field.

With excellent communication skills, you enjoy building a collaborative community environment, and are flexible and resilient in your approach.

MUSEC

is an independent school located on-campus in a purpose-built Phillip Cox designed building neighbouring the Macquarie School of Education. MUSEC is a research-based special school that caters for 44 primary aged students with special learning needs, including mild or moderate intellectual disability, autism, and/or a language disability. MUSEC School aims to support the development of each child to their maximum potential in both academic and classroom self-management skills.
