Dawes Point, Australia Bell Shakespeare Full time

**Development and Events Manager**
**Sydney Based**
**Full Time**
- Exciting opportunity to join a major performing arts organisation
- Small, dynamic and dedicated team
- Salary range $75,000 - $85,000 + Superannuation

Bell Shakespeare is one of Australia’s foremost theatre companies. Established in 1990 by John Bell AO, Bell Shakespeare was created to present Shakespeare’s work in ways that are meaningful and accessible to Australians of all backgrounds and locations.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Development and Events Manager to join our development team. Bell Shakespeare relies on the unwavering support of its family of donors, corporate partners and trusts and foundations - each playing an integral role in the Company’s mission to keep the classics alive, make them their own, and share them with all Australians. The development team manages the Company’s giving programs which currently raise approximately $3m annually.

The Development and Events Manager will work with our Head of Marketing and Development, our Philanthropy and Major Gifts Manager and our Partnerships Manager to grow our community of supporters through building relationships and delivering a program of events. The role will be required to work closely with all departments, our senior management team and our board of directors.

This role is also responsible for managing our front of house team employed to work at Bell Shakespeare’s studio theatres, The Neilson Nutshell and The Seed. Duties include employee contracting, onboarding, rostering and managerial responsibilities.

Additionally, this role drives and administers our Hearts in a Row program, cultivating relationships with community groups who represent marginalized communities and developing individualized programs which overcome their specific barriers to accessing our work.

To be successful in this role will require a driven and talented individual with a broad skill base; outstanding relationship building, empathy and strategic skills combined with exceptional attention to detail and project management experience. The role will be required to attend Opening Night functions, public events in The Neilson Nutshell and The Seed, corporate and donor hospitality events and the annual fundraising Gala. Therefore, some evening and weekend work will be required.

**Who you are**

The role would suit someone who thrives in a demanding, fast-paced environment, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at any one time. You will be an organised, detail-oriented self-starter who is personable, warm, collaborative and creative. You will be able to build relationships with stakeholders from many different backgrounds. You will be ambitious both for yourself and for the Company.

**As part of the Bell Shakespeare team, you will**
- Receive complimentary tickets to all Bell Shakespeare productions
- Receive ongoing professional development
- Be based in a spectacular location at the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct
- Have the opportunity to work within major performing arts venues, including Sydney Opera House, Arts Centre Melbourne and Canberra Theatre Centre

**To be considered as a successful applicant we require**:

- Minimum two years’ experience in development or a similar role
- Experience of managing direct reports
- Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite (In Design and Photoshop)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Project/event management skills and experience
- Demonstrated ability to meet targets
- Sociable and comfortable building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Budget management experience
- Strong team player and able to work autonomously
