The Office of the Commissioner (OOC) is a fast-paced, high-volume environment, with a team responsible for providing strategic and operational support to the Commissioner, including strategic communications, ministerial, parliamentary and judicial engagement, inter and intra-government stakeholder relations and honours and awards.
The OOC works closely with the Offices of the Deputy Commissioners, the Office of the Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, all other directorates within QCS, and other government agencies and external stakeholders to: - Proactively identify and manage issues;
- Support the Commissioner to meet QCS's operational and strategic objectives; and
- Ensure effective functioning of the OOC.
The Media and Communications group delivers full function marketing and communications services, including media publicity and liaison with media outlets in relation to QCS operations and issues. The group manages the agency's social media channels, public website content, and monitors social media and general media. Maintaining the agency's corporate communications standards, style guides and consistency in messaging is a key function of the group.
The Principal Advisor, Media Relations develops, manages and implements media strategies, provides extensive media liaison services as well as high-level issues and crisis management support for key internal stakeholders. The position works closely with ministerial staff and contributes to the agency's strategic communication plan.
**In this role you will, among other things**: - Manage and develop a team of media relations officers
- Support the Director to maintain a rapid media issues response capability, providing support for the Senior Executive and the Minister's office on messaging and strategy, including participation in rostered after-hours support
- Provide high-level media advice, issues and crisis management support to the Minister's office, the Commissioner and Senior Executive
- Undertake day-to-day liaison with the media
- Proactively source opportunities to promote departmental initiatives and achievements
- Research and write media releases, speeches, presentations, website content, social media content and articles
- Undertake media monitoring tasks as part of an issues management strategy
- Manage and coordinate media and communication projects from inception to completion
- Assist with he development and implementation of policies, protocols and standards
- Actively participation as a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing a wide range of communication services
- Lead and maintain liaison, communication and coordination of key department personnel, key stakeholders and those from other agencies to develop coordinated implementation strategies.
