About Red Cross
Australian Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement. We support and empower people and communities in times of vulnerability. We act for humanity.
About the role
This role supports the delivery of Ready Together, a three-year initiative funded by Lotterywest to empower communities before, during and after emergencies to improve resilience and reduce the impact of disasters. The project partners with First Nations, multicultural, LGBTIQ+, disability and youth groups across metropolitan, regional and remote WA to co-design and deliver disaster solutions grounded in lived experience, local knowledge, culture and strengths. Through the Ready Together initiative, we develop, adapt and deliver the full range of Australian Red Cross emergency preparedness and recovery programs.
In the role of Resilience Officer (LGBTIQ+ and Disabilities), you will work alongside people and communities with lived experience of LGBTQI+ and disability to co-design and deliver locally relevant, inclusive, and practical solutions that strengthen emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
You’ll collaborate with communities, organisations, volunteers, and the project team to ensure that resilience-building efforts engage and reflect the diversity, strengths, and priorities of these communities.
While the focus for this position is on LGBTQI+ and disability communities, you’ll work closely with colleagues to ensure an intersectional, all-of-community approach to resilience.
Some travel to regional areas will be required.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome and strongly encourage applicants with lived experience of LGBTQI+ or disability communities, though this is not essential. What’s most important is a strong understanding of community development principles, a genuine passion for advocating for equity and inclusion, and an empathic approach to marginalised communities that fosters trust and safety.
You will bring
- A solid grasp of disaster resilience OR emergency management OR community development.
- Skills in developing and delivering training, workshops, and resources.
- Strong advocacy and communication skills to support stakeholder engagement.
- Analytical skills to help evaluate programs and use data to inform practice.
- The ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, communities and volunteers.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
Mandatory Requirements
A clearance to work with Children and a current Driver’s License is required for this role.
