Position Summary

The PHISC Group consists of the Communications and Engagement Unit; the Web, Publishing and Data

Visualisation Unit, the Pacific Health Information and Classifications Support (PHICS) Unit; the My Health,

Information Management, and Metadata (MHIMM) Unit; the Primary Health Care Data Development Unit

(PHCDDU) and the Practice Incentives Program Quality Improvement (PIPQI) Unit.

The MHIMM Unit works to: support Australian Government policy that My Health Record system data be

made available for bona fide research and public health purposes; facilitate record keeping; provide library

and research services; support AIHW's metadata capability, and; manage the Metadata Online Repository

(METEOR).

The PHISC Group is looking for a Metadata Officer.

Under general direction you will:

- provide advice to AIHW and external stakeholders to support the continuous quality improvement of

metadata held within the AIHW Metadata Online Registry (METEOR)
- support the secretariat for AIHW’s National Health Data and Information Standards Committee

(NHDISC)
- support the ongoing administration of the METEOR platform including Servicedesk, workgroup and

user management
- support standards-based, best-practice, improvements to METEOR, metadata, business rules, and

standard operating procedures.

Selection Criteria

1. Strong skills in development and review of metadata, performance indicators, quality statements and

data standards

2. Understanding of standards such as ISO/IEC 11179 ‘Metadata Registries’ is desirable

3. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with

influence with a range of internal and external stakeholders

4. Well-developed organisational skills, including effective time management and the ability to prioritise
- making skills in complex/sensitive situations.

Relevant qualifications in a statistical discipline, Information Management, Health Information Management

or Information Technology will be highly regarded.
