Operations Manager

Operational Excellence:

- Ensure operational excellence for the Swire Bulk owned and operated fleet
- Responsible for maximizing vessel efficiency at sea and in port and for managing vessels’ P&L.
- Monitor vessel performance (speed and consumption, hold cleaning) and explain variances from voyage estimates to the relevant Chartering Manager. Enforce operating policies across the owned and operated fleet. Demonstrate a clear understanding of cargo husbandry as it relates to all cargoes especially logs, steels, alumina, grains and unitised cargoes.

Bunkering:

- Manage physical bunker requirements ensuring that the bunker planning for each voyage is appropriate. Responsibility for maintaining a zero bunker quality defect and zero spill policy. Clear understanding of fuel grades and ECA zones.

Cost and Productivity control
- Approval of hire payments and invoices. Engage third-party services, as required (e.g. Dive companies, shore labour, cargo surveyors, etc). Accountability for closing completed voyages in a timely manner. Liaise with Swire Bulk insurance, Charterers, Shippers and Receivers to minimise and settle claims. Be a point of contact for Swire Bulk financial controllers.

Commercial:

- Protect Swire Bulk’s rights under law and governing Charter Party whilst maintaining a commercial perspective with a view towards winning long term customers and being our time charter owners’ and cargo customers’ partner of choice.

Communication and reporting:

- Communicate to the regional manager opportunities and issues on voyages. Understand and adhere to legislation directly affecting Swire Bulk business from BIMCO, IMO, Flag State Control and other local, national and international bodies. Liaise with fleet managers and technical managers for owned and time-charter vessels.

- As directed by Senior Operations Manager

Safety:

- In cooperation with the regional Senior Operations Manager and fleet managers, ensure that our safety standards onboard and ashore are world class, with all parties accountable for Swire Bulk’s policy of ‘zero harm’ to our people, crews, suppliers and assets across all dry bulk activities both at sea and in port.
- Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of colleagues and stakeholders by observing Swire Bulk’s safety policy and through a common-sense approach to the role.
- Challenge and stop unsafe acts and behaviours or unsafe conditions.
- Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Polices and Operating Procedures.

Qualifications:
Prefer Sea Going (Merchant Navy) or Tertiary/Technical qualification related to the Maritime industry in Operations or Logistics

Technical Skills:

- Acute reasoning and problem-solving skills highly regarded.
- Bulk Sea going experience an advantage but not essential.
- IMOS platform experience preferred

**Salary**: $98,000.00 - $168,000.00 per year
