**The Opportunity**

The Australian Strep A Vaccine Initiative (ASAVI) is on a mission to develop a safe and effective vaccine to reduce the disease burden caused by Strep A infection though vaccination. ASAVI is a partnership between Telethon Kids Institute and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Research Assistant to join our collaborative team. Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, you will be responsible for providing support to the vaccine development activities through the planning and execution of high-quality research.

You will play an encompassing role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Strep A laboratory and your duties will include but not be limited to:

- Plan and perform microbiology procedures, such as bacterial culture, identification, and other assays.
- Plan and execute immunoassays, including ELISAs and multiplex assays.
- Perform day-to-day general lab duties, including management of lab reagents and consumables.
- Sample tracking and sample inventory management.
- Procurement of laboratory supplies and consumables.
- Collection and processing of biospecimens and management of the biobank.
- Maintenance of high-quality documentation systems.
- Adherence to institute policy and procedure.

Based in our modern office in Nedlands, this full-time position will be offered for ten months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

**About You**

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

- A bachelor’s degree (preferably with Honours) in a biomedical/health science related field.
- Experience with bacterial culture and immunoassays
- Sound understanding of PC2 working practices
- Demonstrated research experience including data collection, laboratory record-keeping, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated organisational and problem-solving skills with ability to multitask under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including demonstrated experience in report writing high personal motivation and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Experience in the procurement and inventory control of laboratory supplies.
- Experience with quality management systems is highly desirable but not essential.
