**The Opportunity**

The Nutrition in Early Life (NIEL) team conducts research investigating nutritional strategies for improved maternal and child health, including intervention studies for the prevention of allergic disease.
We now have an exciting opportunity for the new role of Research Assistant - Lactation Support, within the NIEL team. This role will make a valuable contribution to the Nuts For Babies Study through direct involvement with study participants and collaboration with study team members.
Reporting to the Nuts For Babies Study Coordinator, you will provide breastfeeding support and advice to study participants as required and will assist with the collection of breast milk samples from participants.
This role involves travel within the Perth metropolitan area including to participants' homes and study recruitment sites (mileage reimbursement provided). Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends and ability to obtain a Working With Children Check is also required.
Some of your duties will also include:
- Regular checking of the REDCap database to identify participants requesting breastfeeding assistance.
- Following up identified participants to determine assistance required and provision of support as deemed appropriate, via the phone and during in-person consultations.
- Attending hospital ante-natal classes at participant recruitment sites in Perth as rostered.
- Collaboration with NIEL team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.
- Assisting with the collection of breast milk samples from participants.
Based in our modern offices in Nedlands, this position will be offered on a part-time basis (3 days a week) for 14 months.
***About You**
***To be successful in the role you will have completed (or be in progress of completing) formal education specific to breastfeeding support and advice and be enthusiastic in sharing your learned knowledge with others.
You will also possess skills in the following:
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, specifically a proactive attitude to relationship building.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and work within a team.
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and data management programs, such as REDCap.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
