**Who we are**
Inspector-General of Water Compliance The statutory position of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance (the Inspector-General) was established on 5 August 2021 via an amendment to the Water Act 2007 (the Act). The Inspector-General is an independent basin-wide integrity agency and regulator designed to hold governments, including the Australian Government and state governments, to account in meeting their obligations under the Basin Plan.

The Inspector-General of Water Compliance has both oversight powers and specific compliance powers relating to areas of water management. The Inspector-General’s oversight powers include the ability to undertake inquiries into how Commonwealth or Basin state agencies are performing their functions under the Water Act and the Basin Plan. The Inspector-General also oversights eleven intergovernmental agreements which implement various elements of the Basin Plan and may conduct audits to assess compliance with the Basin Plan and Water Resource Plans.

**The Job**
The Governance, Inquiry and Operations team is responsible for managing the governance of the independent Inspector-General including enterprise risk, preparing and organising executive meetings, monthly and annual performance reporting, developing and loading annual budgets, implementing organisational policies and processes, including the development of frameworks and systems to support internal compliance. The team supports the Inspector-General and staff with the information needed to make decisions to ensure the efficient and effective provision of corporate, administrative, and strategic support to senior leadership.

The Performance Monitoring and Compliance Monitoring teams undertake monitoring and analysis of the performance and execution of responsibilities by Commonwealth and state government agencies. They oversight the deliverables by various government agencies against responsibilities under the Water Act 2007 and the Basin Plan 2012.

Performance and Compliance Monitoring: any qualification with analytical, research, science or policy, or equivalent experience.
- knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the Water Act 2007 and Basin Plan 2012.
- experience operating in a small organisation with high levels of accountability and demonstrable advanced interpersonal communication abilities will be highly regarded.

Desired: Hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers’ licence.
