**Position Information**:
The Assistant Principal Learning and Support position is based at Blackett Public School, to service the learning and support needs of the Mount Druitt Network of schools. The Mount Druitt Network encompasses a variety of school sites including secondary, primary and Schools for specific purposes. Blackett Public School has an enrolment of 250 students. This includes 30% of students recognising and celebrating their First Nations heritage and 30% of students from a non-English speaking background, mainly Pacific Islands. The school has a support unit with three classes catering for students with a range of intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education is a priority in all aspects of our curriculum. Equity funding facilitates innovative initiatives, and best practice pedagogy drives interventions in literacy and numeracy for students, Kindergarten to Year 6.
School wide initiatives ensure a consistent approach to student wellbeing. Parent and community partnerships are highly valued and considered an integral part of our school’s success. Blackett Public School works closely with external agencies.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (primary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (primary) in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers.
Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively to develop and implement innovative programs which support students from a diverse range of backgrounds and needs.
Demonstrated outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, resulting in the building of authentic relationships and engagement with students, staff, the community and external agencies.
Demonstrated ability to lead staff in education change, building the capacity of schools through the development of inclusive practices and whole school wellbeing programs.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning- 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies**Conditions**:
