**About the department**:
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water leads Australia’s response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and helps protect our environment, heritage, and water. We provide advice to the Australian Government around climate, energy, and the environment, and administer legislation. The department also enforces laws relating to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, wildlife, fuel quality and greenhouse gas storage.
We deliver policies and programs to:
- help address climate change and build a more innovative, future ready energy system,
- help protect, restore and manage Australia’s land and ocean environment and heritage,
- improve the health of our rivers and freshwater ecosystems and manage Australia’s water resources for industry and regional communities
- advance Australia’s interests in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.
**About the team**:
The Office of the Australian Energy Infrastructure Commissioner is seeking a motivated and experienced Executive Officer to lead our small, dynamic team based in Melbourne.
The Australian Energy Infrastructure Commissioner handles complaints and enquiries from community residents about wind farms, solar farms, energy storage facilities and new major transmission and offshore energy projects. The Commissioner also promotes the adoption of best practices for industry and government regarding the planning and operation of these projects, as well as provide greater transparency on information related to proposed and operating projects.
As the Executive Officer, you will work directly with the Commissioner and manage a small team that is dedicated to supporting the Office’s role and activities. You will also have the opportunity to regularly liaise with a large stakeholder network, shape new work programs, undertake project site visits and visit regional communities across Australia.

Writing and analytical skills are essential. Proficiency in the use of information technology (including the MS Suite, CRM and other research tools) is also essential.
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or commensurate qualifications and experience is also highly desirable.
**What you will do**:
This role provides a unique opportunity to work directly with communities, industry and government agencies during an important time in Australia’s energy transition. In leading a small and energetic team, you will be responsible for ensuring improved outcomes for regional communities and the energy industry.
In this role you will:
- Independently manage a small team dedicated to supporting the Commissioner in delivering the Commissioner’s Terms of Reference, including handling of complaints and advocating for best practices in relation to onshore and offshore wind farms, solar farms, energy storage facilities and new major transmission projects.
- Supervise the preparation of formal reports, work plans and other briefing material, including regular reports to the Department, quarterly reports to the Minister and Annual Reports to the Parliament of Australia.
- Supervise the maintenance and improvement of the Office’s systems, policies and procedures, as well as provide advice to the Commissioner and staff on the Department’s policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement activities and programs to advocate for best practice reforms and initiatives.
- Supervise undertaking of research and preparation of documentation including briefing materials, presentations and submissions to assist with the Office’s stakeholder engagement activities.
- Provide guidance for the publication of relevant material on the Commissioner’s website.
- Proactively establish and maintain productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, proponents, associations and all levels of governments involved in planning processes and community engagement.
**Eligibility**:
Prior to commencing, the successful applicant will be required to hold and maintain a valid driver's licence and be able to travel both regionally and interstate.
