The team
The Credit, Banking & General Insurance team is the team primarily responsible for the regulation and supervision of the credit, banking, payments, debt management, and general insurance sectors. This includes proactive engagement with and monitoring of firms and the sector overall. This team coordinates and provides strategic direction, industry knowledge and technical expertise for ASIC's work in these sectors.
The Indigenous Outreach Program (IOP) is also within the Credit, Banking & General Insurance team, focusing on consumer protection issues for Indigenous consumers.
The role
**As an Analyst/Lawyer you will be accountable in this role for**:

- Identifying, assessing, and actioning regulatory issues across the sector to promote adherence with the law and to promote better outcomes for consumers.
- Drafting regulatory instruments and other regulatory documents, such as public reports at the end of a thematic surveillance project.
- Identifying new ways to utilise data to deliver priorities, including effective collection, management, analysis, and communication of insights from data.
- Liaising and engaging with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory issues and encourage improvements of industry practice.
- Drafting clear, accurate analysis and advice on simple matters and with supervision on more complex matters.
- The identification of issues, their possible causes and impacts, and being able to differentiate between non-adherence with the law and conduct causing harm.
- Conducting research and analysis on emerging issues across the sector.
- Contributing to and writing reports, presentations and briefings for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Maintaining knowledge of ASIC's regulatory framework and toolkit, relevant legislative and reporting requirements, domestic and international developments, and best industry practice models.
- Assisting the Leadership team with the implementation of policy and law reform, including developing of new guidance, training, systems, and processes
- Assisting the Leadership team with the identification and implementation of effective regulatory strategies, interventions, and law reform to consumer outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with other teams within ASIC to enable them to carry out their roles, especially the carrying out of enforcement and compliance action.
- Collaborating and supporting (as required) with RR&I on sector specific law reform projects.

About you
- Relevant tertiary qualification.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to readily acquire regulatory and sector related knowledge.
- Experience assessing, challenging, and authenticating complex information, and making sound regulatory judgements.
- Experience as an analyst, ideally gained in a corporate, consulting, government or academic environment.
- Strategic thinking, analytical, investigative and research skills, including data analysis and presentation.
- An understanding of the benefits in developing strategic relationships that partner to ensure the effective use of all available data and information opportunities.
- Conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as drawing reasoned influences from qualitative and quantitative data and to reach robust and practical conclusions.
- Ability to think about and solve problems, coupled with strong business acumen.
- Some exposure to, or an understanding of analysing quantitative and qualitative data.
- Experience presenting information to different audiences through strong business writing and verbal communication.
- Ability to take a well-considered, forward thinking, and planned approach, who can respond with agility and flexibility to change.
- Experience managing relationships with industry and other stakeholders.
