Job Summary: The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for database optimization and operational support and maintaining the integrity of the business system databases to support system and user requirements. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide break-fix support in the resolution of incidents and problems working with 2nd and 3rd level support, external vendors and Service Delivery Managers including updating the Client on incidents and Crisis.
- Provide input to all phases of Oracle and SQL Server database platform and software development process including platform architecture and design, risk assessment, evaluation of third party solutions, query reviews, change scheduling, release, documentation, performance tuning, and importantly support.
- Involved with moving data between databases, implementing database patches, developing scripts to perform various functions on the databases we support, and will be involved with problem resolution of both test and production databases.
- Installation, patching, hardening and maintenance of database platforms, including new environment commissioning.
- Ensure that user access to databases is designed correctly and reviewed regularly to ensure access is appropriate for the roles of users.
- Plan and manage upgrades of database releases
- Ensure databases are licensed correctly
- Coordination of testing including facilitation to resolve issues
- Leads the Identification, investigation and resolution of technical issues.
- Creation & maintenance of system documentation where required
- Work across both Windows and Unix environments with a variety of database tools
- Assist with resolving issues in production with SQL reports with stored procedures, Crystal Reports and SAP Edge
- Participation in testing including facilitation to resolve issues.
- Highly proactive ownership of operational issues and support tickets from identification through to resolution
- Always seeking continuous improvement of maintenance practices to enhance overall team productivity
- Contributes to published documents such as design specifications, system administration guides, product guides, and reference designs.
- Acts as high level database support in a global organization that operates 24x7 production environments. Participates in rotating on-call schedules with other members of the team.
- Participates in large cross-functional projects under the direction of a project management team. Maintains detailed documentation, including support processes and procedures, capacity plans and capacity reviews.

Minimum Job Requirements:
**Qualifications**:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience
Desirable:
- CCNP or CCNA Certification
Skills/Experience/Knowledge
Essential:
- Minimum of 4 years Oracle/MS SQL Server database experience in a structured operational and software development environment
- Excellent SQL writing skills, including the ability to handle the different dialects of SQL as used by Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL etc.
- Sound knowledge of Unix and/or Windows operating systems as position requires to ensure reliable operational fault diagnosis
- Ability to solve complex problems in the development of computer software systems
- Experience with large scale transaction processing environments such as financial, transportation or telecommunications
- ITIL experience
