**The Role**
Reporting to the NSW ACT State Manager the Assistant Director, Skills and Training is responsible for:
- Managing the delivery of Apprenticeship and Skills for Education and Employment contracts for NSW and ACT.
- Leading two responsive and flexible teams to deliver outcomes for Australian Apprentices and clients who need to improve literacy and numeracy.
- Relationship and stakeholder management, including business development, local project development, policy interpretation, problem solving, complaints management, delivery of incentive programs and government initiatives focused on apprenticeships and literacy and numeracy.
- Facilitating the transition of providers for both Apprenticeship and Skills for Education and Employment programs.
- Supporting Apprenticeship and Skills for Education and Employment Providers to deliver quality services and outcomes, in keeping with contractual requirements and departmental expectations and act as a central point of contact for providers with the department.
- Resolving issues and providing regular advice and feedback to the State Manager and other senior staff within the department.
- Working collaboratively and collegiately with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to contribute to effective skills service delivery, and program management initiatives and opportunities. This includes Training Services NSW and Skills Canberra, as two main state-based bodies who govern apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Leading program procurement activities for the NSW ACT State Office as required.
- Travel, including some overnight trips.
**Skills and Capabilities**
We are seeking enthusiastic, curious, and motivated individuals with the following skills and capabilities:
- Strong leadership and people management skills, including the demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership in building team capabilities, fostering and promoting a positive workplace culture to meet current and future business needs, and to effectively manage complex and sensitive issues.
- Proven ability to build positive, collaborative working relationships with, and be innovative in response to the needs of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes, so as to contribute to the work of the NSW/ACT State Office more broadly.
- Be a strategic thinker, conceptual and analytical capabilities, including the proven ability to provide evidence-based advice.
- Sound project and contract management skills and abilities.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication, including strong representational skills and the ability to provide clear and accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders.
**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 12 months.
