Kingston, Australia Morris Legal Group Full time

**Are You Part of the Great Reshuffle?**

Our profession demands a lot from its practitioners. The pandemic has caused many of us to take stock of what is important to us, the work we want to do and the way we want to do it. If you're questioning whether your current role honours you both as a practitioner and as a person, you have options.

With our expanded office and clear strategic plan, an opprtunity has opened up for one like-minded practitioner to bring their experience to the firm, who would love to serve our clients and see them succeed.

You're a lawyer with some experience in property, construction and/or commercial law. Maybe you've already worked in those areas, or perhaps you're an all-rounder looking to dig deeper.

But you've definitely made some kind of promise to yourself about this year... and you're searching for a firm where you'll be trusted and looked after.

We see you.
**Property is HOT**
Canberra has one of the most interesting, stable and closely-held property markets in the country. Project activity remains strong as does price growth in a post-COVID reality.

Property owners, developers, builders and subcontractors are providing significant ongoing employment and growth to the Canberra economy. These are our clients.

Did you know:

- Property and construction is Canberra's largest non-government industry sector.
- Canberra is home to Australia's third largest commercial office market (behind Sydney and Melbourne).
- Locally-based private individuals and companies are disproportionately represented as property owners and developers in Canberra, compared with other markets.
- Lawyers with property and construction experience are in demand and will continue to be in demand.
- Whether you're at the start of your career or already on the journey, property and construction knowledge helps you to position yourself for prominence and high earning capacity into the future.

In this role, you get to work directly with the people who are building Canberra while accessing excellent professional development opportunities.
**How we do it**

We are tech-driven and client focussed. We hardcore leverage technology to automate tasks, make remote work dreamy, improve client experiences and make matter tracking flawless.

We continue to develop those tools as a joint effort amongst our whole team.
- Best in class service to our clients and the profession is our absolute priority. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for our team to deliver that promise._

At Morris Legal Group, we are not afraid to try things that law firms don't usually go for. We work smart, rest up and play well.

Here are some things we were not afraid to try, which have stuck:

- 100% fixed fee matters with no time recording. At all. Ever.
- Leveraging technology and automation to improve task quality, client satisfaction and lawyer workload.
- Focus on client outcomes (ie, getting things done) rather than attendance (ie, looking like you're getting things done).
- No set office hours, no set dress code.
- Work from home and flexible work arrangements, as it suits the individual and the firm.
- Above-industry superanuation contributions, in line with ACT Government.

**The Role**

We are awarded and highly specialised in property, development and construction and we are looking for someone to join us.

If you have the experience and are right for this role, we will work with you to find the best schedule for both of us. The role could be full time or part time (3 or more days per week in any pattern of hours).

The role will require you to provide legal advice, prepare and draft legal documents, and conduct negotiations on behalf of clients on matters associated with the law, under the supervision of Morris Legal Group's Principal.

Tasks performed in this role include managing conveyancing and other property matters by preparing contracts of sale, mortgage documents, lease documents and other documents relating to the transfer of land and buildings.

We're looking for someone who:

- is careful and thorough with their work, and cares about the law and keeping across its evolution
- really cares about high quality customer service and the client experience
- is interested in the commercial reality of our clients' businesses
- thrives when taking the lead on their matters or with their clients
- is looking to learn a more rounded, entrepreneurial approach to practicing law
- genuinely loves working with people and working as part of a team towards everyone’s success

The cache of available work is varied and can respond to your skillset and interests. This work includes:

- Property purchases and sales - from private homes to multi-million dollar development sites and commercial buildings
- Commercial leases - from tenants opening their first business to managing leasing for shopping centres
- Property development - from concept to completion
- Construction matters - from contracts drafting and negotiation to contracts
