**The Role**
Joint Proof & Experimental Unit (JPEU) is an integral part of Explosive Ordnance Branch, Joint Logistics Command and is tasked to provide dynamic, static and environmental test and evaluation services to the Australian Defence Organisation. JPEU consists of a Headquarters at Port Wakefield SA, and two Ranges, Proof and Experimental Establishment (P&EE) Graytown VIC, and P&EE Port Wakefield SA.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated person to manage our Data Acquisition Section (DAS). The Data Acquisition Section collects critical Test and Evaluation data regarding the performance of explosives ordnance undergoing testing. Working closely with the Range Trials Manager and Range Trials Officers.
The DAS Manager will be committed to ensuring work practices are aligned to contemporary WHS&E requirements and will drive the sections adherence to them. Employment at Port Wakefield currently attracts a Special Defence Locality Assistance allowance of approximately $6,640.00 per annum ($255.36 per fortnight).
Note: This role may also offer Individual Flexible Arrangements (IFA), offering a salary range between $85067 - 107,569.00. Applicants deemed suitable with exceptional skills, experience or expertise may be eligible for an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) in accordance with the IFA provisions of the Defence Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020. This may include additional remuneration and/or the variation of other conditions. In these cases, total remuneration will comprise of base salary + IFA additional remuneration + superannuation.
**About our Team**
The Data Acquisition Team is responsible for the capture of high speed video and still imagery for Static and Dynamic Trial activities, Radar Operations and Survey.
The team has a dynamic workload spread across a range of responsibilities including the setting up of equipment at trial sites such as the Ballistic Tracking System, splash detection cameras, pressure gauges and associated equipment, placing equipment to ensure that data is captured as required and then the post processing of the data and imagery to inform the ‘Test Report’ for the customer.
The Data Acquisition Engineering Team supports all operational activities at P&EE, Port Wakefield supporting explosive ordnance test and evaluation activities. The team works under considerable pressure to capture the data required for the customer due to the nature of the Test and Evaluation (T&E) activities due to time pressures and the significant cost of the T&E activities.
- Able to work with a diverse range of customers and be able to lead a small team in a dynamic environment integrated environment of Australian Public Servants, Defence Force and Defence Industry Support Personnel.
- Able to continuously improve systems and processes using Lean methodologies to achieve excellent outcomes.
- Dynamic, an excellent communicator and be able to influence out comes to ensure that ‘Best Outcomes for Defence’.
And have:
- Excellent project management skills and be able to lead and manage the resources and equipment required to capture the data that is essential to ensure that T&E outcomes are achieved.
- A keen eye for detail and be able to identify potential issues within statistical data to pinpoint outliers that may indicate an issue with the items that are undergoing test or the equipment in use.
