**About us**:
The Mental Health Unit for Older Persons (MHUOP) is based within the Mater Mental Health Centre. MHUP is a 22 bed unit that supports and provides specialist treatment to people aged 65 years and over with mental illness and provides support for physical health related issues. You will be working with a committed and passionate multidisciplinary team consisting of Consultant Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Psychologist and Nursing.

**About the role**:
This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge working within an acute mental health setting. You will be working with people 65 years and over and their families and carers, conducting psychosocial assessments and developing intervention plans with consumers, families and carers in a way that demonstrates a commitment to person centred care and family inclusive practice.

You will be working as part of a social work department and will be supported by a senior social worker and social work department head. You will have access to regular clinical supervision and opportunities for ongoing education and professional development.

**About you**:
We are looking for a social worker with an interest in working within an acute mental health setting. You will need to have high level communication skills and an ability to work within a multidisciplinary team bringing a psychosocial lense. You will need to have well developed skills in conducting psychosocial assessments and an ability to work with consumers, families and carers from a person centred and family inclusive focus. We are looking for a social worker with experience or an understanding of the specific issues working with older people and their families and carers.

**Requirements**:

- Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
