Principal Project Officer

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Governance Team, Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, you will lead, manage, and evaluate state-wide clinical practice improvement and clinical governance projects. The primary objective is to ensure the delivery of timely and high-quality project outcomes. You will be responsible for providing prompt advice and guidance to stakeholders and senior management on specific issues related to the provision of safe and quality care within these services. A key activity of this portfolio is support of the incident notification and management process and a sound working knowledge of clinical incident management in a healthcare setting will be beneficial.
You will demonstrate strong leadership skills by providing support, guidance, and mentorship to team members, as well as other internal and external staff involved in the projects. Your role will also require active representation of the Clinical Governance Unit and the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist on state-wide committees. By participating in these committees, you will contribute to the development of effective, innovative, and strategic health service responses to meet the diverse needs of individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Furthermore you will possess strong leadership abilities, the capability to provide timely advice and guidance, and the skills to represent the organization at state-wide committees.
The successful person
To excel in this position, you must possess demonstrated expertise in designing, managing, and implementing initiatives related to clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement. Your experience in continuous clinical quality improvement will be invaluable with a focus on clinical incident management. Additionally, you should have exceptional skills in negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement. Effective written communication skills are crucial, including the ability to compile various types of documents such as reports, briefings, project documentation, discussion papers, and submissions.
Furthermore, you should have comprehensive knowledge of national and state strategic directions, standards, guiding frameworks, legislation, and safety priorities within mental health, alcohol, and other drugs service delivery, as well as suicide prevention. Your expertise should extend to high-level analytical, policy development, data interpretation, and evaluation skills. The ability to integrate multiple related activities to achieve deliverables and outcomes will be essential for success in this role.
