**Who are we looking for?**

We are seeking a Legal Officer (General Legal) to join Office of the General Counsel, Chancellery Division.

The Legal Officer will be part of a dynamic in-house legal team. Reporting to QUT’s General Counsel, the General Legal team is led by the Director, Legal Services (General Legal), and is responsible for providing a wide range of in-house legal advice to offices of the University, including the Vice-Chancellor, University Registrar and other members of the senior executive Issues may include: - Commercial contract advice and drafting - Procurement - IT services - Property transactions including leases and licences to occupy - Student issues and engagement - Work integrated learning and scholarships - International agreements - Public Interest Disclosure - Crime and Corruption Commission - Workplace Health and Safety - Dispute resolution - Legislative interpretation and advice - Memorandum of Understanding and Non Disclosure Agreements - Collaboration agreements - Service and Consultancy agreements - IP, copyright and moral rights advice - Conference and Venue agreements The Legal Officer is expected to serve the best interests of the University but is also to comply with the standards of conduct required for members of the legal profession. This position reports to the Director, Legal Services, (General Legal) for career planning, development, and performance expectations.

**About the area**

The Office of the General Counsel is led by the General Counsel and is responsible for providing legal services to the University. It provides legal advice to the Vice-Chancellor and President, Senior Executive and Council. The portfolio also includes the assurance and audit office, which provides independent analysis, appraisals, recommendations, advice and information about QUT’s internal control systems, effectiveness, and performance quality..

**What you need to succeed**
- A degree in Law and admission as a legal practitioner in the State of Queensland, with at least a restricted practising certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to draft a wide variety of legal documents, with particular emphasis on drafting of agreements in a plain English drafting style.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate practical legal advices to a diverse range of clients across the University.
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills with a sound ability to prioritise tasks according to competing deadlines and the ability to manage a high volume of work.
- Demonstrated attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a legal team.
