**About the Role**
As the Research Finance Consultant, you will manage a portfolio of complex funding programs/streams and awards allocated to faculty. You will be the single point of contact for Chief Investigators (CI's) for the duration of the funding programs, including supporting CI's in managing financial resources and navigating complex funding rules. You will manage all financial aspects of the various projects within the portfolio, including but not limited to; advice on budgeting, interim and final cost claims, expenditure reports and reporting to partners where required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maximise Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) effectiveness in post-award matters, including meeting validation requirements. Continuously review HERDC system and reports for data integrity. Collaborate with key stakeholders to complete annual returns.
- Assist academics in creating grant and contract budgets, including calculating in-kind contributions according to funding scheme requirements.
- Collaborate with the Research Finance Manager to implement system changes and process improvements for enhanced efficiency.
- Work closely with the Research Finance Manager to support all the team of Research Finance Officers & Consultants in providing guidance and support, assist in setting work priorities, KPI’s, and managing performance
**Who we are looking for**
We're seeking a finance consultant who can exercise good judgment, take initiative, and work independently or collaboratively within a team when needed. As a skilled communicator and storyteller, you're committed to providing high-quality service and offering responsive assistance. Your strong organisational skills enable you to effectively prioritise tasks and meet competing deadlines while maintaining a user-friendly approach.
You will also have:
- A relevant tertiary degree in Accounting/Finance and significant on-the job experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- Relevant (2+ years) experience in managing research grants and contracts in the University sector or similar in the commercial environment
- Ability to show good judgement, initiative and undertake tasks independently, seeking advice and escalating as required.
- Strong understanding of the rules and requirements of various funding schemes, e.g. Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
