**About the Role**
You will be leading Council’s Climate Emergency and Environment Strategy Team, supporting six team members to develop Council’s policy and strategy agenda focused on a range of issues including climate, waste and circular economy, water, land contamination and emergency management. You will make a direct impact by developing and implementing projects and initiatives within Council’s sustainability related strategies, along with seeking new opportunities and initiatives in line with Council’s goals. You will work with key stakeholders both internal and external to identify partnership opportunities and build influence for innovative projects, support strategies and foster collaboration.
**Duties
- Position Council as a leader in sustainability by driving innovation in council’s strategies and partnerships on a range of sustainability-themed issues.
- Support Council’s climate-related and sustainability priorities and objectives to deliver on Council Plan objectives.
- Lead as Council’s appointed Municipal Recovery Manager (MRM) to support the delivery of emergency planning, response and recovery from community impacts.
- Lead Councils response to the climate emergency through ambitious action, advocacy and partnerships to provide maximum protection for our community.
**Skills & Experience**
- Demonstrated understanding of current environmental sustainability issues, specifically climate and energy, waste minimisation and circular economies, water and land contamination.
- Experience leading a team, including setting strategic outcomes and project and contract management support.
- Experience in developing strategy and policy and working within government statutes and regulations and within risk management frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work with a wide variety of people of different backgrounds, experiences and knowledge and across all levels of management
- A tertiary qualification in climate or environmental science, business, engineering, policy, economics or a related field, and/or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained through substantial experience in these or related fields.
