The School of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Science (BABS) teaches undergraduates, mentors postgraduate research students and conducts research in the disciplines of biotechnology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, environmental microbiology, medical microbiology and immunology.
The Business Improvement Officer (Level 6) is responsible for providing effective and efficient project management support and high-level support to Head of School and School Executive in the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science (BABS). The role will be responsible for developing, enhancing and managing project delivery for the School. The position will drive the delivery of School based strategic and operational projects and programs to achieve innovation and strategic goals.
This role will also support strategic initiatives of the School through established committees and Head of School support as required.

The role of Business Improvement Officer reports to the School Manager and has no direct reports.
**Specific responsibilities for this role include**:
- Provide executive support for Head of School.
- Provide superior support to the School Executive including both technical and administrative support.
- Drive business improvement initiatives, projects and programs including reporting on the impact of change on the operations of the business and staff.
- Build and maintain relationships and networks with staff and stakeholders to achieve a collaborative environment that prospers an engaged and co-operative approach to projects.
- Identify areas of process improvement to support the strategic initiatives within the School
- Provide training and support for project infrastructure as required
- Assist with developing and documenting policies and procedures to support operational activities of the School.
- Identify, allocate and coordinate project resources, including financial, staffing and other operational resources.
- Analyse and report on the effectiveness of projects through development and delivery of progress reports ensuring that projects are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope.
- Integrate information from various and sources to draft documents and correspondence for the School Executive.
- Provide any other operational support as determined and directed by the Head of School and School Manager

- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through another combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven ability to deliver required project training and support to stakeholders
- Demonstrated project management experience delivering projects within agreed timeframes and budget.
- Relevant experience undertaking business analysis and identifying opportunities to improve business processes and outcomes
- Sound knowledge of business and process improvement methodologies and demonstrated experience in implementing projects and programs including the ability to identify and address the impact of change on staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate with and influence diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional time management, office management and organisational skills, ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Proven ability to allocate and delegate tasks as required (if relevant).
- Demonstrated initiative, sound analytical and problem-solving skills and proven experience in business improvement activities.
- Extensive experience working on confidential and sensitive matters and demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and tact as required.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
