**The Role**
Exciting opportunities exist for enthusiastic, motivated, aspiring security professionals to join Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

DSTG is seeking professionals who have a desire to develop knowledge in the security field with internal promotions and training development remaining a key priority for the Security Operations Directorate.

Working in DSTG you will be part of a dedicated security team providing researchers and staff with security advice and capability support. Our team enable efficient delivery of Defence priorities in line with legislative and policy requirements.

Working collaboratively, you will enable and promote a positive security culture within a technical research environment by providing professional support and advice. You will directly contribute to enhancing Defence research through an innovative approach to security.

Within the Security Operations Directorate, there are several vacancies for APS 4 Security Officers at all major Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) sites:

- Fisherman’s Bend (VIC).
- Edinburgh (SA).
- Fairbairn (ACT).

Security Officers operate at a whole of group level but are based in regional teams to enable them to build closer engagement with key stakeholders, better understand their work programs and physical infrastructure.
Due to the requirement to conduct physical security support to operations and the classification of some systems, onsite attendance will be essential.

As an APS 4 Research Security Officer you will undertake essential security functions critical to securing Defence research activities. Our APS 4 Research Security Officers operate in two main roles. We have multiple positions within in our Research Security Hub team, and one position supporting our Research Divisions directly to provide localised support where required.

The APS 4 Research Security Officer is the primary point of contact for DSTG customers seeking Security support. This role involves processing and resolving a wide range of technical security issues across all DSTG divisions and security domains, requiring a level of policy expertise and a high level of customer service skills.

Research Technology and Operations Division (RTO) delivers specialist capabilities to Defence Innovation Science and Technology (IS&T). RTO comprises a professional workforce of engineers, technicians, computational scientists and other staff who provide a wide range of highly specialised and unique research capability and innovative solutions delivering advanced research platforms for defence, national security and the wider IS&T ecosystem.

RTO capabilities accelerate and protect Defence's science and technology advances and promote a collaborative, compliant, safe and healthy workplace.

Research Operations Branch is building a strong and professional workforce of highly qualified, trusted advisors who work with our research scientists in the provision of leading edge, safe and secure research infrastructure and business advice.

We engage with broader Defence stakeholders to ensure DSTG’s, IS&T enabling capability requirements are well planned and appropriately prioritised with a strategic mindset. Research Operations also has stewardship of the delivery of DSTG’s Trials planning, coordination and support.
