**The Role**
Working as part of the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Security team, these positions will provide security support with specialised knowledge in management and operation of classified laboratories and facilities.

As a Research Security Officer, you will undertake and deliver complex personnel and protective security services to support Divisional staff and assist in monitoring divisional security performance to ensure an appropriate level of security and compliance is maintained.

You will work to promote a positive security culture within a research or highly technical environment by providing professional support and advice, enhancing Defence research through innovative security. You will work with staff and clients across DSTG sites and locations within Australia. You will need to build positive relationships and be able to understand and promote a best practice approach to security within complex environments. You will need to develop an understanding of Defence and DST Security policy and procedural requirements.

**About our Team**
The Research Security function facilitates security management for DSTG and provides specialist advice on complex security matters. Research security Officers work together to support DSTG security requirements in accordance with the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and other relevant security policies and instructions.

The Research Security Officer is a crucial and unique role that holds significant responsibilities for the security within their division and DST Group.
- Preparation and conduct of security briefings to Divisional personnel as required.
- Identifying, researching and analysing complex protective security issues, and providing recommendations and advice to stakeholders through development of briefs, risk assessments and mitigation plans for both personnel and protective security matters.
- Evaluate and assess Research Innovation Security Assessments (RISA) & complete Security Risk Management Plans (SRMAP) as required for Research Agreements/Plans (both Domestic & International) and initiate solutions to enable effective security risk management.
- Liaise with a broad range of stakeholders, comply with policies or implement a risk management-based strategy to ensure Divisional Security requirements are met in relation to physical certification and accreditation
- Collate, research and analyse security issues to produce high-quality reports, submissions, briefings and discussion papers for the Divisional leadership team.
- Facilitate security aspects of conferences and workshops comprising international partners across existing and developing projects and programs as needed.
- Provide security advice to stakeholders on appropriate security arrangements / controls for weapons and explosive ordnance.
- Conduct security audits on classified Divisional assets and effectively manage classified waste disposal projects where applicable.
- Support and contribute to ongoing continuous improvement security activities within the division and DST Group.
