
Operations Superintendent

As an Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for the daily execution of the terminal operations in a safe, productive and cost-effective manner.
The role responsibilities are shared by 2 full-time positions, working alternate shifts of 4 12-hour days on, 4 off, across 7 days. You will be responsible to collaborate closely with the other Operations Superintendent to ensure the effective delivery of the role objectives.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Lead and manage Operations Supervisors, ensuring performance, compliance, and effective roster and leave management.
- Conduct coaching, performance reviews, and implement development plans to drive team capability and accountability.
- Proactively manage hazards and respond to incidents in line with established safety protocols.
- Support disciplinary processes, employee investigations, and work closely with HR on escalated issues.
- Monitor shift performance to meet or exceed operational targets.
- Ensure optimal deployment of operational staff and supervisors to maximize productivity.
- Oversee execution of landside, rail, and special cargo operations, ensuring compliance with Australian Border Force (ABF) requirements.
**Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
- Tertiary qualifications in business, engineering, logistics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on operational experience.
- Extensive experience in terminal or operations roles within the transport, maritime, or stevedoring industries.
- Proven leadership and management experience, particularly in container or bulk port operations and supervising shift-based teams.
- Strong experience managing industrial relations in unionised work environments.
- In-depth knowledge of cargo handling procedures, terminal yard and vessel operations, and related equipment capabilities.
- Understanding of legal, commercial, and contractual aspects of stevedoring, along with high computer literacy and proficiency in terminal and vessel planning systems.
