**THE COMPANY**
The business provides engineering design services, which is supported by “State of the Art” manufacturing facilities using the latest 5 Axis CNC machinery and precision measurement and testing equipment, additive manufacturing capabilities extending to surface metal treatments & coatings and the provision of equipment sustainment services.
**THE POSITION**
The role of “Fabrication Manager” reports directly to the head of operations and is located at their “Palatial” Geelong manufacturing facility. Currently, there is a team of 10 who report to this role, and this is expected to double of the coming 12-24 months, in line with forecasted demand. Position scope includes and is not limited to the following:
- Analyse work practices and resource utilisations to identify areas for improvement.
- Liaise with relevant departments and other team members to ensure work meets customer specifications and expectations.
- Monitor progress of parts through the manufacturing process to ensure that costs are kept to budget.
- Control use of resources within your area to achieve both maximum utilization and minimum wastage.
- Order required special materials, supplies and tooling as identified during the planning phase of the job.
- Conduct ongoing reviews to ensure supplies are maintained according to the plan.
- Maintain oversight of parts manufacture from fabrication through to NDT and inspection, completion and final signoff.
- Oversee daily stand-up meetings to discuss Quality, Safety & Production with the team.
- Maintain 5S standards throughout department including weekly audits and process improvements.
- Report cost overruns to the Operations Manager and contribute to corrective actions.
- Accountable for weekly/monthly/annual budgets (resources, consumables, material, footprint and overtime).
- Support Operators with standard work instructions, specifications; gathering fixtures, tools, and materials as required.
- Provide coaching, training, and feedback to staff to ensure parts are manufactured is in accordance with specifications and maintain the skills matrix of your team.
**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**
To be considered for this role, applicants will need to satisfy the following key selection criteria:
- Applicants **MUST **be** Australian Citizens** and have the capacity to satisfy **Defence Security Clearances**:
- Possess Formal Trade Qualifications in Engineering to a minimum Certificate III Level in Medium to Heavy Duty Fabrication.
- Further Qualifications Such as a Certificate IV or Diploma will be highly regarded and a Distinct Advantage
- Possess proven leadership and people management skills - Managing small teams OR the demonstrated attributes to effectively become a leader is a pre-requisite
- Have the capacity to execute a production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow and produce shift production summaries is just some of the scope associated with position responsibilities
- There will be a requirement to be “hands-on” and lead by example as well as act as a technical resource to your team to assist with troubleshooting any equipment/product issues in conjunction with the Quality Manager
- Possess strong software and computer skills supported by strong report writing and analytical skills
- Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and drive change and positive initiatives and clearly and effectively communicate with staff at all levels across the business
- Have a “can do” attitude with an emphasis on driving world class performance and customer service
- Ability to work collaboratively in a strong team focused environment.
