**About Disability Liason Service**
The Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) has been created at the Women’s with revised funding from the Victorian Department of Health. The DLO supports the Women’s to achieve its strategic directions by the provision of comprehensive, high-quality care for women and infants with disabilities. While it has operational reporting lines through the Allied Health and Clinical Support Services directorate, it has a broad remit in supporting women and infants/their families who may require additional support during their episodes of care, and consulting with teams who work with them to better understand disability, access and pathways to resources and ongoing care, such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
**About the role**
The DLO will embed systemic support to the clinical teams working with women with disabilities who identify they would like additional support during their episodes of care. It will take the lead on navigating patients through NDIS pathways (for new participants, or those with existing plans which may need modification because of changes in health affecting their disability/conditions and ability to live a meaningful life).
This position promotes and contributes to the development of a culture of learning, reflective and evidence-based practice to achieve excellence in the provision of care to women, their babies and families for a range of reasons. Its purpose is also to build capacity among clinical staff and work to assist with patient flow for our patients with more complex needs and to address barriers people with disabilities may experience accessing care at RWH. The role will have close collaboration with other DLO roles in the Parkville Precinct.
