**The opportunity**:
The Health Informatics Group is composed of the epidemiology and informatics teams that together manage the state-wide surveillance system of SAEFVIC, reporting to the Department of Health, Victoria and nationally on AEFI trends and potential signal detections. Research activities include the investigation and validation of AEFI signal events and establishment of enhanced signal detection methodologies including near real-time surveillance from a range of health data sources. The group are also based within the Centre for Health Analytics of the Melbourne Children’s Campus.
SAEFVIC is a specialist vaccine safety service focusing on vaccine post-licensure surveillance and is an Australian leader in vaccine safety. As the largest jurisdictional vaccine surveillance reporting service, it helps immunisation providers report and manage both children and adults who have had (or are at increased risk of) an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI). SAFEVIC engages with networks focussing on vaccine-related issues of public health importance and supports the National Immunisation Program, including roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination program.
The Statistical Data Analyst will contribute to statistical analysis of exciting vaccine safety projects locally for Victoria through SAEFVIC and the Centre for Health Analytics, and internationally through the Global Vaccine Data Network. You will be expected to develop statistical analyses plans and implement them towards outlined study objectives with mínimal supervision.
**Your responsibilities include**:
Conducting vaccine safety data analysis for routine and emerging vaccine surveillance
Advancing the data analytic capability of SAEFVIC to inform on vaccine safety, including working on data across various statewide and global vaccine data
Contributing to statistical planning and protocol development, provide guidance on study designs
**About you**:
Relevant Masters or higher level qualification in field related to data science and statistical analyses
Demonstrated experience in statistical analyses for public health disease or drug surveillance or similar, with ability to quickly learn new statistical algorithms in public health disease or drug surveillance if necessary
Preferred appropriate level of experience, formal training or professional accreditation in statistical analyses for public health disease or drug surveillance, including self-controlled case series (SCCS), self-controlled risk interval (SCRI), proportional reporting ratio (PRR), Bayesian methods
