**Job Description**:
- An excellent opportunity is available for a Technical Analyst to join the Information Technology Services at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
- About the position
- Under the direction of the Research Data Project Manager, the Technical Analyst will play a significant role in uplifting research data management at the Institute through creation and improvement of technologies and processes to maintain the Institute’s commitment to deliver world-class research.
- The Technical Analyst will lead and/or contribute to the design, development and implementation of researcher
- centric data management tools and services aimed to maximise time for research across the Institute’s variety of research disciplines, improve workflow efficiencies, increase compliance, and help to standardise data, associated metadata, and their related processes.
- Primary responsibilities include, providing technical-expertise, developing documentation (e.g., technical requirements and specifications), conducting market scans for tools, designing, and developing proof of concepts and prototypes, frontend and/or backend development, integration work, testing, driving user acceptance testing, implementation of tools/services, helping to develop user guides, and assisting with the service transition to go-live. The Technical Analyst will be critical to ensuring solutions are fit-for-purpose and adopted to create excellent value. Where assigned, the Technical Analyst will be responsible for managing services and/or infrastructure within the data centre and potentially in the cloud, ensuring service performance is continuously aligned to service expectations, within the constraints of available resources.
- As part of the small team, the Technical Analyst will have the role of technology expert and support the project, Agile methodologies, and particularly its more technical members, the Solutions Architect, Data Modeler and Systems Engineer. The Technical Analyst will be an innovation and change agent to help the Institute, through the project, exploit IT to secure advantage.
- Key Responsibilities- Proactively improve institute-wide data management processes through the implementation/development of tools, ITS infrastructure, integration and data centre capability, and services to help achieve the project’s objectives and in close partnership with the institute’s research community-
- Utilise business requirements and user stories to develop technical requirements, create tickets, conduct market scans for data management tools, design and develop proof of concepts and prototypes and document its feasibility and relevant findings-
- Undertake user driven technical design for implementing large scale solutions or incremental improvement changes to existing solutions.-
- Contribute as required to the development of project business cases and support presentation of these to senior management for consideration and approval where required-
- Where required, write, and analyse code using best practices, and participate in development sprints to develop, test, and deploy new functionality, bug fixes and configuration changes-
- Develop test cases, conduct unit, component, and integration testing, drive end-to-end and user acceptance testing-
- Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with project stakeholders, or supporting research at all levels, providing well-informed advice on research IT technologies and services - ensuring that services are well communicated, properly understood, and widely-adopted, acting as an innovation and change agent and promoting better ways of working-
- Ensure technical risks and issues are raised in a timely manner, provide options, practical advice, mitigation recommendations, troubleshoot and remediate where required- Develop resources, such as user guides to assist in the implementation of tools and services in support of change management initiatives
Selection Criteria
Knowledge and skills- A degree in computer science or IT related discipline is required, in addition a science or a related field will be highly regarded- Understanding of research data management and computing needs of researchers in medical research including bioinformatics, genomics, imaging, structural biology, and so on- Strong ability to engage with research stakeholders at all levels and present ideas clearly. The ability to listen and interpret needs into requirements and translate business requirements into technical requirements.- Ability to work independently to investigate best practice solutions and technologies, ability to identify and manage priorities, make recommendations, and present options- Conversant with IT service management (ITIL) standards and Agile, LEAN methodologies, Agile certifications are desired
Personal qualities- Exceptional in-depth technical skills in systems programming, with at least 5 years’ hands-on exp
