**Role**:
Primary purpose and objective of the position is to provide a holistic youth support service to students at the school who are at risk in their engagement with education. The role supports student retention and engagement in school and community programs through the development and implementation of appropriate learning programs and strategies that aim to improve their general wellbeing.
The school caters for the needs of students who are disengaged from education and training and who present with a complex range of risk factors, behaviours and life situations. For this reason, it is necessary to provide a program that uses a holistic approach, catering for the educational, welfare, and broader health needs of each student. The role of the Youth Worker will vary with each student. The Youth Worker will also prioritise their level of support based on workload capacity.
The Youth Worker is part of the Wellbeing Team whose responsibility is to work cooperatively as part of a team, ensuring a productive and efficient workplace, working towards the objectives of the Belmont High School Strategic Plan.
This position works closely with the Principals and House Leading Teachers and the Wellbeing Manager and has line management to the Principal and Business Manager.
**Responsibilities**:
- Work collaboratively with the Wellbeing Manager (as direct line manager) and Wellbeing team to ensure that student needs are met with appropriate intervention in a timely manner
- Participate in all team meetings with regards to referral discussions and sharing of best practice. The Youth Worker will receive and act on referrals from the Wellbeing Manager
- Provide counselling support for students and case management where required
- Develop meaningful case plans and goal setting with students
- Liaise effectively with the Wellbeing Manager and Wellbeing Team regarding cases
- Keep relevant, professional and up-to-date case notes on identified students to monitor progress and develop robust support plans
- Advocate for students where appropriate and facilitate further external referrals
- Follow school protocols and procedure when managing crises
- Liaise with families, carers and workers regarding the student¿s well-being needs. This may look like phones calls, written contact, Parent meetings and professional care-team meetings
- Facilitate targeted group interventions for identified students. Support and facilitate pro-social activities (Lunchtime activities, social groups, celebration activities), both within the school and in partnership with wider community agencies
- Establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and responding to the needs of each individual student with empathy and consistency
- Support teachers to understand and respond to student wellbeing needs
- Attend school excursions and camps as required
- Liaise with BM to undertake relevant staff professional development and training.
- Undertake other duties relevant to the field of responsibility as requested by the Business Manager or Principal
