Civil Designer

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to join our growing team as a full-time Civil Designer at our Sydney CBD office.

The Civil Designer works in the civil and water engineering team at Warren Smith Consulting Engineers. The team member will be able to work independently through substantial tasks under the overall supervision of the Director of civil and water engineering and senior staff.

**Minimum requirements**:

- Civil Engineering degree /Diploma of Civil Construction or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years’ post graduate experience as a Designer (preferably local experience).
- Intermediate/advanced AutoCAD capability.
- Intermediate/advanced use of 3D terrain modelling software (12D or AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Good oral and written communication skills with use of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Be Sydney based.

**Responsibilities of the Civil Designer**:

- Manage and take responsibility for delivering project documentation in accordance with Client brief, relevant Australian Standards, and local authority requirements.
- Regular reporting and liaison to the Director - Civil and Water Engineering and project managers, including attendance at internal team meetings to report on the progress of the design.
- Design of roads, car parks and earthworks utilising 12D and AutoCAD Civil 3D to relevant codes and guidelines.
- Prepare bulk earthworks and cut/fill calculations.
- Understanding of stormwater drainage, roof drainage, On Site Detention and Retention design.
- Peer review of designs by other team members, interrogating design solutions to ensure full compliance with codes, standards, and project briefs.
- Actively participate in the development and improvement of design and CAD standards within the group.
- Attendance of co-ordination meetings to resolve design issues between the various consultants and clients.
- Write concise project communication and design reports.
- Brief CAD staff on the design documentation and ensure that the drafted design is accurate.
- Research appropriate proprietary solutions and ensure that manufacturer’s information that is supplied is suitable for the project.
- Take instructions from the Director and other assigned Engineers.
- Work within the project design budgets and advise the manager if there is there is a risk of not meeting the budget targets.
- Attend site inspections, review contractors work and prepare site inspection reports as required.
- Review contractors WAE drawings, RFIs and other requests during construction.
- Utilise company platforms including Confluence, Trakstar, Xero and Synergy.
- Mentor junior staff in a constructive way by providing feedback to develop skill sets.
- Work within the project design budget/programme and advise the director if there is a risk of not meeting the budget targets.
- Continue to further educate and attend training sessions as required.
- Ensure compliance with the civil and water engineering drafting standards and company QA procedures.

- Ability to work independent and inquisitively.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the design process, co-ordination of work with other design disciplines and the efficient management and delivery of projects within budget, program, and quality constraints.
- Willingness/ability to undertake detailed analysis, calculations and design.
