About us
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for the provision of in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS), to the Attorney-General as First Law Officer, and to other DJCS Ministers.
About the role

**In this role, you will**:

- Manage and instruct in multiple litigation and advice matters, including appeals to the Supreme Court of Victoria. This may include some appearance work.
- Undertake legal research and analysis on legal matters, utilising statutory interpretation skills.
- Support and work collaboratively with the OGC executive and leadership team.
- Contribute to the identification of new and emerging legal issues within the WWC and NDIS operational framework with the potential to impact on the delivery of key Government initiatives in this field.
- Provide advice on reports, Cabinet and Ministerial papers, briefing notes and submissions on complex legal, policy and operational issues relating to the operation of the Worker Screening Act 2020 and other legislation.
- Maintain effective working relationships, ongoing communication and successful negotiations with key stakeholders both internal and external to the Department.
- Contribute to the review and development of the Worker Screening Act 2020.
- Contribute to the strategic objectives and work of OGC more broadly.

**Your role**:
**Among other things, you'll be involved in**:

- Providing legal advice and statutory interpretation in relation to the Worker Screening Act 2020 and related legislation.
- Managing litigation matters that arise out of the Worker Screening Act 2020. This will include preparation of litigation materials, working with Counsel and some appearance work.

About you
We are looking for lawyers who possess a proven ability to provide advice in relation to any of:

- criminal, civil or government advisory work and litigation;
- public or administrative law.

Applicants must be admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to practice as a legal practitioner in Victoria.
