As part of this team you will appear on section 222 appeals in the District Court and appear in hearings and sentences in Magistrates Courts across Queensland, undertaking travel as required.
About the Role
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Drafting legal documents, such as complaints and summonses in relation to breaches of the Acts and Regulations administered by the department, while ensuring that legislative and policy considerations are applied.
- Preparing matters for sentence
- Appearing as an advocate in the Magistrates Court (in its criminal jurisdiction) for mentions and sentences. Appearing on behalf of the department in Applications for Special Hardship Orders in the Magistrates Court (in its civil jurisdiction).
- Consulting, liaising, and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to resolve evidentiary issues, and develop recommendations, strategies and/or policies
Skills & Experience
- Experience as a junior lawyer or significant pre-admission experience as a law clerk or paralegal.
- Experience in building and/or maintaining relationships with investigating officers or
- Demonstrated experience working individually and in group environments to deliver common goals.
- You must have a driver's licence, a law degree and be admitted as legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland
- A criminal history screening will be undertaken on the successful applicant.
