**Who we are**
The Crisis and Emergency Management Branch provides a hub for emergency management within DAFF. It plays a key role in supporting delivery of the department’s objectives and priorities by:

- Developing a whole-of-enterprise, all hazards emergency management framework to strengthen our capability to respond to emergencies and incidents.
- Leading strategic policy initiatives across government and with industry in relation to emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Working closely with all areas of the department to strengthen capability and coordinate emergency responses.
- Sustaining the department’s ability to deliver services, time critical business functions and fulfil its responsibilities during disruptions.
- Embedding a strategic approach to continually improve the department’s emergency management, business continuity and crisis capabilities.

The Preparedness team works to embed a strategic approach to continually improve the department’s emergency management capabilities, and support development and delivery of a whole-of-enterprise, all hazards emergency management framework.

**The Job**
We are seeking an experienced, focussed, and motivated officer to lead and manage a range of emergency management functions and fulfil program management responsibilities.

Key duties include but are not limited to:

- Bolstering emergency management capabilities across the department to better anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents.
- Leading a program of work to benchmark the department’s emergency management capabilities, identify gaps and design capability development programs.
- Contribute to the department’s continuous improvement in emergency management through supporting delivery of the department’s training, exercising and lessons management programs.
- Supporting and enabling divisions with emergency management responsibilities.
- Engaging with stakeholders in matters relevant to the department’s emergency frameworks and in support of all-hazards preparedness, response and recovery.
- Manage a small team of staff to deliver desired outcomes.

- Skills and Capabilities_
- Demonstrated organisational and program / project management skills, and a strong ability to meet deadlines under limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability in managing teams in an agile environment and reporting to senior executive.
- An understanding of Australian Government, or biosecurity and agricultural sector preparedness, response and recovery arrangements will be highly regarded. Desirable qualifications
- Relevant qualifications (in emergency management) or comparable experience in program management and delivery.
- Knowledge and experience_
- Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing a program of work and ensuring delivery goals are met in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated experience in managing project teams, monitoring project schedules, managing budgets and costings, preparing progress reports, and liaising with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in developing briefs and reports to support the Senior Executive team with decision making and program coordination.
- Ability to work well under pressure and coordinate response to incidents including reporting to senior management and external agencies under tight timeframes.
- Extensive experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

**Eligibility**
Security Clearance - This position requires a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
