**About the Senior Executive Service Unit**
The Senior Executive Service (SES) Unit guides the strategic people management of the department’s SES cohort to ensure it is well positioned to deliver on APS Reform, departmental objectives and sustain positive culture change through exceptional leadership. The Unit provides this support through strategic guidance and expert advice to Senior Executives to manage all facets of the SES employee-lifecycle. The Unit demonstrates a high level of professionalism, client-service, knowledge and capability to maintain and leverage the trust of the SES cohort.

**The Role**

The Assistant Director supports the Director who is a member of the People Branch leadership team that works in close collaboration with the Organisation Design Branch. Assistant Directors across both HR branches are responsible for supporting good communication and connection across work priorities, identifying and harnessing opportunities, and building alignment between strategic and operational HR functions for the department.

The Assistant Director, SES Unit:

- will support the design and implementation of a strategic vision and plan for the management of our SES cohort,
- support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the SES Unit service offer, providing an enhanced customer experience,
- is a trusted advisor to senior executive on sensitive and/or complex people matters including across industrial relations, performance, conduct, remuneration and development matters
- has an important role in enabling change and responding to the evolving organisational needs of TeamDEWR,
- has an expert understanding of, and the proven ability to, develop and implement contemporary and strategic people strategies, services, and policies spanning role design, recruitment and selection, remuneration, talent management, capability development, performance, integrity management, mobility, and other professional support services for the SES cohort,
- will work in partnership across the People and Organisation Design Branches to anticipate, identify, develop and support HR solutions to achieve critical business, and respond to the emerging culture, vision, values and strategy of the newly formed department,
- has the highest level of discretion, integrity, judgement and resilience,

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Working under broad direction and exercising a level of independence, the Assistant Director, SES Unit, reports to the Director, and is responsible for:

- guiding and supporting a professional team in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities,
- supporting the development and implementation of HR frameworks to ensure there is a strategic approach to SES recruitment, talent management, performance and retention that support the SES cohort and organisational priorities,
- being an authoritative and trusted senior advisor to department Executives on SES employment related matters,
- providing advice and contributing to solutions to complex human resource functions and activities including SES leadership requirements, performance, talent, mobility, spans of control, remuneration and workplace relations matters,
- supporting an annual work schedule and continually improving how the Unit supports the
- Deputy Secretaries and the Secretary to manage the department’s SES cohort,
- supporting the team to undertake routine human resource and stakeholder management functions and activities including SES recruitment, cohort reporting, collating and reporting on SES performance review outcomes, on-boarding and off-boarding and routine correspondence,
- representing the SES Unit professionally through participation in committees and networks.
