Brisbane, Australia Queensland Government Full time

**About the Role
We are looking for experienced policy and legislation officers to progress complex projects and mentor less experienced staff through the policy and legislation development process.

As a Principal Policy and Legislation Officer you will lead or undertake the more complex policy and legislation work of Regulatory Policy in Justice Policy and Reform, D.oJ, by conducting research and analysis, and developing options to solve problems relevant to responsible liquor and gaming practices and to help markets work fairly. This opportunity will involve leading and mentoring less experienced staff and requires good stakeholder communication and negotiation skills. We are looking for a team member who can work under pressure both autonomously and within a high-performing team to prepare quality written documentation such as cabinet submissions, discussion papers and drafting instructions.

While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, qualifications in law, public policy, or other degrees relevant to the role will be favourably regarded. Practical experience in policy and/or legislation development is essential for fulfilling the key responsibilities of the role.

Temporary full-time positions are available for 9 months (with possible extension). We may consider part-time applicants.

We have two temporary Principal Policy and Legislation Officer positions available in our Casino team and multiple positions across our liquor, gaming and fair trading teams are also available.

Why Work for the Justice Policy and Reform Division
Regulatory Policy Branch in the Justice Policy and Reform Division of D.oJ. undertakes policy and legislation development for the Government and supports D.oJ.'s operational branches, in relation to the legislative and regulatory frameworks for liquor, gambling, consumer protection, occupational licensing, associations and cooperatives, charitable fundraising organisations and activities, as well as community titling and body corporate governance matters. We work to empower consumers and minimise harm, while at the same time ensuring markets are safe, fair and responsible.

Our people have a diverse range of technical skills and experience in public policy, law, business, behavioural sciences, academic research and the development of evidence-based solutions. Our team is intelligent, innovative, friendly and has a passion for minimising harm and assisting Queenslanders to live in a fair, safe and responsible society. Using research, community comment and industry input, we provide advice to Government to help solve complex problems and make balanced decisions in the public interest. Due to our involvement with Cabinet and Parliamentary processes we are predominately located in Brisbane City. However, we recognise our work impacts all of Queensland.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
